MCAD Art Sale today and tomorrow!

Friday, November 21st, 2008

As a pretty recent alumni to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, I can still participate in the ultra-fabulous MCAD Art Sale. It has been moved up this year for the first time in years to be before thanksgiving. The hours of the sale are tonight, 6-9pm and Saturday, 9am-5pm on the first and second floors of MCAD’s main building. Tickets are expensive and required friday night ($35-40) but Saturday is completely free. This is an event not to be missed. Everything is under $1,000 and your money goes back into the pocket of the MCAD student or recent alumni whose work you’ve purchased.

Here’s some photos of my work that’s for sale at the art sale:

Shapes & shapes

While hitting up my buddy Marie’s blog, I learned about this great illustrator/designer from the UK, Marcus Walters. He has some very inspiring yet simple work. Here’s a sampling of what I enjoyed:

Ornament Sneak Peek

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Here’s a sneak peek at what I’ve been up to for about 5 months now: holiday ornaments! The are printed on felt made from recycled post-consumer plastic bottles, screen-printed, embroidered and sewn by my hand, and basically my new pride and joy. Since my best friend moved to Montana, I’ve had much more free time on my hands. I can only mope and cry for so long. So I took up ornament-making! Yayyy! I’ve already made 100 of these lil guys, and I’m not even done yet. And as for all my friends who read my blog, this post is a spoiler alert to your christmas present. Please send me your address if you wish to receive one of these.

As to the rest of you wonderful people who are Too Many Suitors product buyers and yet-to-be my friends, they’ll be plenty of opportunity to purchase these ornaments for the holidays, including the I Like You Ornament Show on November 29th, No-Coast Craftorama on December 5 & 6, and the Handmaiden’s show on December 7th. Plus, stay tuned for some possible online shopping opportunities.

Favorite People #007: Kermit the Frog

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

I was a lucky child to grow up with the wonder of Jim Henson and his Muppets. What’s more magical than puppets, music, silliness and guest stars?

As to Kermie, he was my favorite. He’s sensitive, reasonable and dreamy.

Favorite People #006: Barack Obama

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

I have never been more excited or optimistic for the future of our country. History has been made and Change has come to America. Finally, a president who spreads hope and not fear. Congratulations, President-Elect Obama and Vice-President Elect Joe Biden!

Midwest Love

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

We might not have an ocean coast, mountain ranges or palm trees, but we do have a strong sense of pride as Midwesterners. I know I’ve been inspired by my (Madison,) Wisconsin upbringing and (Minneapolis,) Minnesota education/situation. Here’s a sampling of midwest-inspired work:
