I actually found out about Charley Harper one weekend when I was home in Madison visiting my Mom. As usual, she turns on Sunday Morning while she drinks her tea. But on this certain Sunday (not only was I awake), there was a segment about Todd Oldham and his unique relationship with American Modernist Charley Harper (and promoting his book Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life). And from then on, I fell in love with Mr. Harper’s work. His self-proclaimed “minimal realism” style is so iconic, geometric and sweet. The fact that he illustrated and screen-printed his works, he is not only one of my favorite people but a new-found graphic hero.
Todd Oldham’s pricey book is on my “to buy” list, but until then I’ll just continue to drool over this website.
