The Great Andrew Bird

Saw Andrew Bird at the State Theatre last saturday and fell in love! I mean, I loved his music before, but his stage presence and insane musical talent has made me smitten with Mr. Bird. Check him out, you won’t be disappointed!

I have never been more excited or optimistic for the future of our country. History has been made and Change has come to America. Finally, a president who spreads hope and not fear. Congratulations, President-Elect Obama and Vice-President Elect Joe Biden!

Yes We Can! 

Yeah, that’s right, say what you will about her, but gosh darn, I really admire this woman. She’s got talent, dedication, passion, creativity and determination — and with that she’s built an empire. My mom says I’m like a younger, hipper version of Martha Stewart. And I totally agree! Here are a few examples of why I love the Martha Stewart creative dynasty:

I came across David Weidman when I did an online search of his name from a screen-printed art print that I seem to have forgotten how I came in possession of. I remember admiring his print and thinking I should google his name. What I discovered was that Weidman was a hot commodity in advertising and animation in the 50s and 60s. He also produced a series of illustrated screen-prints during that time that are still for sale on his website today. And as a graphic designer myself, I had to order his “work smarter not harder” print.  It was a lovely transaction and even got a little thank you note from David personally!

I wish I could find more of his work online and at a higher quality, but this was the best I could do. It’s still totally inspiring:

The Pressure is the multi-disciplinary brain child of Adam R. Garcia. I met Adam while in art school and have been inspired/delighted by his work ever since. He’s a designer, illustrator, art director, intellect, rapper and aspiring ping-pong player. His website shows how faceted this kid really is. He’s definitely bookmark-able.

Below are some note doodles that were passed in one of our classes we had together back in the day. Yes, I’ve kept them. They are Adam Garcia originals. Yes, I’m one of those designers that keep (hoard) everything. And yes, I’m hoping to put them on ebay one day. We’ll see what happens.

Let me introduce you to the lovely, the talented, Ms. Kelly English. Kelly is an extremely gifted designer/art director with an impressive background. She lives and works in Minneapolis, with former positions at Graphiculture and Planet Propaganda. I love her girly, playful and sophisticated aesthetic! It really is inspiring to see a woman design work that is strong yet still feminine. And best of all, I am lucky to call her my friend! Below is just a sampling of her work.
