Sad News

This past thursday, I found out about a fire that destroyed six amazing local businesses in south Minneapolis. This included a great boutique, Patina, as well as Patina’s new venture in all things made in Minnesota, Shoppe Local. I had the great opportunity to have my work sold in Shoppe Local. It opened last October and was gaining a great amount of recognition in town. I hope that these businesses will all choose to rebuild and stay in the neighborhood! I took these pictures last November and never got around to posting them. I wish I could have posted them under better circumstances.

Please help Haiti

It can be as simple as texting “haiti” to 90999 and a $10 donation to the Red Cross will appear on your next cell phone bill. I also had the pleasure of donating my design skills for healinghaiti.org with the above tee shirt design with 100% of their proceeds going to those in need in Haiti. (”Sak Pasé” means “What’s Happening” in creole, a common greeting in Haiti) Every little bit helps. And if that wasn’t enough encouragement, check out this amazing rescue of a Haitian brother and sister stuck under the rubble for seven days. Talk about a miracle!

Hello 2010! I’ve been waiting for you and am so excited you are finally here. I’ve made several resolutions this year, including growing Too Many Suitors AND posting on this blog at least every Monday of the new year. So, let’s kick off the year right with a post and some new art. I really want to make an alphabet or monograms with cute and kid-friendly creatures. Any ideas, anyone?

Major changes.

Hello Everyone!

Just wanted to give a quick update on Too Many Suitors and myself. As of two weeks ago, I’ve left my full-time job as a designer and I am now on my own! I’ve been thinking about this move for quite a while and I’ve finally picked up the courage to do so. Let me tell you, so far, it has been the best decision I’ve made in my life. So, “what now,” you ask? Well, I’m going to continue designing and be a freelancer around town. This new found freedom also leaves precious time for me to focus on Too Many Suitors. So, with that being said, I’d like to tell you of the events I’m in this holiday season.

100th Post!

After what I feel has been quite a long time of not being able to post images (and who likes a blog post without images?!), my buddy Jon has updated my Wordpress and I am ready to go! And coincidentally, this will be my 100th post! Yahoo!! This is quite the celebration, since I’ve been waiting to tell you all the good news, (that is if you don’t follow me on twitter or facebook) that my Too Many Suitors shirts will soon be for sale at the Walker gift shop!!! The Walker gift shop, as in the Walker Art Center. OMG, this has seriously been one of my dreams, to get into the Walker gift shop!

They will be carrying 7 designs, 4 of which are new, in children’s, women’s and men’s. Prices will be slightly higher, ranging from $25-$33. As soon as I find out when they will be in the gift shop (sometime in July), I’ll let you know! This will mark the first (of what I hope to be many) wholesale ventures. So, if there are any boutiques reading this, and you’d love my shirts in your store, please email me at sara@toomanysuitors.com and I will send you my lookbook.

TWEET!

So, I broke down and joined Twitter today. I’m still skeptical about it and how often I’ll use it. I don’t find myself that interesting or worthy of “followers.” But I have to admit, I like to cyberstalk my friends and acquaintances (it’s completely innocent, so I like to call it, One-Sided Catching Up™). It’s probably more because I like to know what everyone is up to but sometimes don’t want to talk about what’s new (or NOT new) with me. For anyone that knows me personally, I think they’d agree I’m a question asker.

I just find it funny that we need to feel even MORE connected to everyone, since we have cell phones, internet, facebook, flickr, instant messaging, texting, and now instant tweets! What will be next?! For some reason, I just keep picturing one of my friends directly in my face, too close for comfort, as I go about my daily activities. Anyway, I still joined Twitter despite my beliefs. You can check me out here.
